Lisa and Damian sing and fiddle the blues like the Mississippi Sheiks. They sing super sad true ballads by Blue Ridge Mountain coal miners and fancy-free moonshiners. Pennyless Duo has been singing for the 99% since the 1% banished the penny in 2012.
There's a lot of Thomas Jefferson Jarrell and Round Peak Appalachian fiddle and banjo coming from Damian as he moves around and sings over tunes. Damian also builds mighty fine open-back banjos and repairs old fiddles and bows.
Lisa herself is no small wonder - despite her small frame. She can belt a real man hatin' honky-tonk number like it's 1967 or '56 for that matter!
Pennyless Duo have entertained passengers on board four Transcontinental Rail passages for Via Rail Canada. They'll give intimate house-concerts, brighten up busy farmer's markets, and even hold down bar gigs throughout the Southern Gulf Islands with The Stowaway Stringband and YOMADA's House Stringband. The pair were at Nimblefingers Bluegrass and Old-Time Workshop, summer 2015 playing tunes for an Appalachian style flatfooting/ cloging workshop and were on the bill for the Nible Fingers bluegrass and old-time festival.
