YOMADA sends a big "fire in the hole!" to all the dancers and volunteers who made this third annual BOO Grass Scare Dance III the best one yet! With fantastic attendance and amazingly creative costumes from the mainland and all around southern Vancouver Island. Kids, young and old, were hollerin' and dancin' all night in the lights and smoke! Yup, Phillips Blue Buck sold out late in the evening, and this helped this annual all-volunteer dance raise up the YOMADA bank for the exciting season ahead.
First, to recap some of the costumes we just can't forget: The Moonshiners looked great as, you guessed it: moonshiners! And people really liked YOMADA House Stringband as the characters from Wizard of Oz. Stay tuned for more photos from the dance in our photos section.
Every year after YOMADA's BOO Grass Scare Dance, there is an appreciation event, such as the first years big dinner, or all volunteer party last year. This year YOMADA has pointed its focus to one very special square dance caller, Craig Marcuk. After booking his flights to L.A. and getting a pallet on someone's floor, YOMADA surprised Craig with two-hundred dollars for his journey to Dare to be Square West in LA, CA USA! It's the biggest event for folks like YOMADA! It only occurs once every four years! You can bet he'll be bringing back all kinds of new square dances and flat-foot steps. Our next dance is sure to have a calling workshop in the mix to share his experiences with all us square dancers in Victoria. So, thank you so much for helping this year by coming to our dance!
If you live in Vancouver or just can't wait until YOMADA's next square dance, there's going to be a dance at the Wise Hall on November 23rd. Come on out and Square Dance at the WISE.
